Ramey Wine Cellars

About the producer

Ramey Wine Cellars was founded in 1996 by David Ramey and his wife Carla, after David had worked for almost two decades creating benchmark wines for such wineries as Matanzas Creek, Chalk Hill, Dominus Estate and Rudd Estate. Located just off the town square in Healdsburg, the winery is perfectly placed to make use of the great Sonoma and Carneros terroir famous for the quality of their Chardonnays. Ramey's philosophy is to make hand-crafted wines that see the marriage of terroir and Old World tradition with New World innovation and progress. Over the years, David has helped pioneer traditional, artisan winemaking techniques in California. His efforts have rippled through the winekamking community, helping to shape the way many wines in the United States are made today. His groundbreaking work with indigenous yeasts, sur lies ageing, malolactic and barrel fermentation yielded a new California style that was richer and more luscious than previously known. As a result, he created a benchmark style now emulated by many. In addition to the reputed and recognised wines produced in Healdsburg, the team have embarked on another project. Sidebar Cellars is the second label of David Ramey and Ramey Wine Cellars. It is the product of the Ramey team’s desire to have some fun and a little instant gratification while waiting for the Ramey bottlings to mature. The wines are classically styled in keeping with the team's philosophy and tradition, remaining distinct from Ramey in its varietals. The wines are invitingly fresh and satisfying in their youth.
