Domaine Nicolas-Jay

About the producer

Nicolas-Jay is the story of a three-decade friendship between famed Burgundian winemaker Jean-Nicolas Méo and visionary music entrepreneur Jay Boberg, and their shared love of Oregon Pinot Noir. Working together, their aim was to create a distinctive expression of great Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.
  • Organic
The pair decided to open a small winery following a visit to the Willamette Valley, setting the knowledge of viticulture and experience of winemaking gleaned from working with Grands Crus of Burgundy on the finest grapes from Oregon. This includes fruit from the older vines of Nicolas-Jay’s own organically farmed Bishop Creek Vineyard on the hillsides of the Yamhill-Carlton appellation, a site that stood out to the pair during a blind barrel tasting for its potential to offer distinctive and striking, yet elegant wines.
From this fruit, Jean-Nicolas, Jay and talented Associate Winemaker Tracy Kendall create alluring and expressive wines that convey the distinctive personality of Oregon Pinot Noir.

Vineyard

Organically farmed, with sites across the Willamette Valley including estate-grown Bishop Creek in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, the higher-elevation Nysa in the Dundee Hills AVA, and the biodynamic, McMinnville AVA Momtazi Vineyard.

Winery

The wines are made using traditional Burgundian techniques such as destemming the grapes, pressing at low pressures and ageing in French oak - a combination of new and old.
