Mauro Veglio

About the producer

In 1992, Mauro Veglio and his wife, Daniela, took over his family estate consisting of 12ha in the communes of La Morra and Monforte d'Alba. He reclaimed the grapes, which were previously being sold off and transformed the winery into a high quality negociant. In the vineyards, he reduced yields through canopy management to improve grape quality. A modern winery was constructed where they then began producing a new wave of wines. Employing shorter macerations of two to three days, as opposed to the traditional three to four weeks, the couple also engage in temperature-controlled rotary fermentations and have bought in French barriques, of which only 20% were new, for ageing.
Mauruo adheres to "natural systems of cultivation and vinification" and practices organic production (however he is not certified). Avoiding the use of any chemicals in the winery or vineyards, meaning no chemical fertilisers, pesticides or flavour alterations, he enables the purest expression of terroir in the estate's four different crus of Barolo: Arborina, Rocche dell'Annuziata and Gattera, and Castelletto.
