Jancis Robinson Dog Point Review
Amongst excitement of the En Primeur release of Burgundy, this time of year can see New World producers at risk of being the subject of neglect. Over in New Zealand, however, our Dog Point Marlborough Chardonnay 2015/16 received a glowing review from Jancis Robinson on Purple Pages.
Commending Dog Point as "one of the most admirable of the more than 500(!) grape growers in Marlborough", she noted that the current release wines are the first from the winery to all be certified organic - a fact that she suggests could be a contributing factor to the 2016 Chardonnay's "thrilling" quality. The current release wines include the 2016 Chardonnay, 2016 Pinot Noir, 2016 Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc and 2018 Sauvignon Blanc.
Upon a recent tasting, she notes "...with its light reduction/struck match whiff, it was very similar in some respects to how many of us remember the Coche-Dury wines of the first decade of this century."
Prior to Dog Point's Chardonnay claiming the limelight, a wine from another FMV agency was pronounced Jancis Robinson's 'Wine of the Week'. Eva Fricke's Riesling 2017 Rheingau won the accolade just a week before Dog Point; see the article on Eva Fricke's 2017 Riesling here.
