FM&V adds Rhône house, Château La Nerthe to its portfolio

by Will

Château La Nerthe is one of the oldest producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The estate’s impressive Château was built in the 18th Century and winery records date back to as far back as 1560. Family-owned since its inception, the property was bought by the Richard family in the mid-1980s who own various properties in Bordeaux and Beaujolais, as well as a significant wine distribution business in Paris.

Rhône Buyer Fiona Hayes comments:

“This is a great new addition to the FM&V portfolio. La Nerthe complements our well-established Rhône range and offers great synergy between ourselves and the Château - it being one of the oldest Châteauneuf-du-Pape estates, and a family run business. Their young and dynamic winemaking team produce wines of great purity and balance.”

Corinne Richard of Château La Nerthe comments:

"Our family has serviced restaurants in Paris since 1892. Today as wholesalers, vine growers, winemakers, and still a 100% family operation, we are delighted that our flagship property, Château La Nerthe, can partner with such a historic and pioneering wine family as BB&R/FM&V."

Adrien Brun, Head of European Sales comments:

"We have been enjoying a very successful relationship with BBR to offer our premium wines to private clients in the UK and around the world for 25 years. It feels only natural now that we are now adding the distribution through Fields, Morris and Verdin to their on-and off-trade clients."

Château La Nerthe has a reputation for producing wines with great freshness and balance thanks to early picking to maintain acidity. A mix of 600 litre foudre and small and medium-sized barrels or tanks for vinification in the red Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines helps achieve balance and integration.

FM&V will be offering a new and exciting library release programme from La Nerthe. This is for highly regarded vintages that are drinking well 10 years after their first release. The 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape will be released in January 2020. These wines will be presented as part of a sneak peek tasting in late September.

FM&V will be initially focus on four key wines as well as a number of older cuvées from the library programme. A 2010 En Primeur release will also be made available in early January.

The following wines will be available in stock from week commencing 9th September:

-        Cassagnes de la Nerthe Blanc 2019 (coming soon)

-        Chateau La Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2016
